The actors met on the set of Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming, released in 2017, with Holland stepping into the title role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker and Zendaya transforming the classic role of Mary Jane into Michelle "MJ" Jones. Spider-Man have unwittingly become romantic settings—onscreen and offscreen—in the past. Sony executive Amy Pascal, a producer on the Spider-Man films, famously warned Tom Holland and Zendaya not to date during filming.

“I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture,” Pascal in 2021. “Don’t go there—just don’t. Try not to.

I gave the same advice to Andrew and Emma. It can just complicate things, you know? And they all ignored me.” Maybe it’s for the best they ignored her.

Maybe a curse has been broken because Holland and Zendaya confirmed their engagement in January after many years of courtship. Here’s everything we know about the proposal and their upcoming wedding so far. The proposal was intimate and private.

The notoriously private couple are rarely photographed together these days since publicly confirming their relationship in 2021. TMZ first reported the engagement news in January 2025, saying that the proposal took place between last Christmas and New Year’s Eve in “a very intimate setting in one of Zendaya's family homes in the United States,” but that no family were present—just Zendaya and Holland. The engagement ring had a golden debut. If the proposal itself was private, then the engagement ring’s public debut was anything but. While Zendaya attended the 2025 Golden Globes in Beverly Hills on her own in January, her plus one came in the form of an “east-west” cushion cut engagement ring.

Naturally, eagle-eyed observers started speculating about an engagement immediately. Incidentally, there was blink-and-you-miss-it footage of Zendaya showing off her ring to Pascal. We’ll leave that there without comment.

You still might not see them together often. Did we mention they like to keep things private? Holland, in particular, seems ready to step away from the spotlight sooner than later.

In an interview with Men’s Health earlier this year, he said, “When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore. Golf and dad. And I will just disappear off the face of the earth.” Holland also clarified why he doesn’t walk the red carpet with Zendaya: “Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us.” Dave Benett // Getty Images Zendaya and Tom Holland pose at a photocall for "Spider-Man: No Way Home" in London December 5, 2021.

And the wedding might not be until 2026. If anyone is going to know when the wedding is going to be, it’s going to be Law Roach, Zendaya’s long-time stylist and creative partner. And right now, he's saying we have to wait.

Specifically: “I’m resting up for 2026,” he said. “It’s far away,” Law at the Fashion Trust Awards in April. “They’re both doing a bunch of movies this year, and there’s a lot of premieres next year so you’ll see a lot of red carpets.” Zendaya has several projects in production, including a new season of HBO’s Euphoria and Dune: Messiah.

The couple will also star opposite each other again in a new Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, as well as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is expected to be released in July 2026. We will continue to update this post as we learn more.
