We will never skip a Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Met Gala moment, but this year, we had to, because they didn’t show up. The Hollywood It couple skipped out on the grand event held in New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight, the theme of which was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” based on the museum’s exhibition of the same name. Though we do not know the exact reason Lively and Reynolds missed out of the event this evening, they are going through a difficult legal battle with Lively’s It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni.
Also, it may be that they are just utterly exhausted, after all, they have been on a very public, month-long style streak. In the past several weeks, the two attended a string of red-carpet events and press appointments as Lively promoted her new film, Another Simple Favor with costar Anna Kendrick. While the Gossip Girl star turned heads in everything from a double-leather fit, to a cozy cardigan, to a leather coatdress with fringe, to a see-through corset dress and a sunflower-yellow outfit Beyoncé once wore, Reynolds mostly stuck to his preppy, cool dad aesthetic.
And although the spring-inspired couple outfits worked well for them—we’re still partial to the red-carpet date-night glamour they tend to deliver only on the first Monday in May. We certainly hope to see them back on the starry red carpet for next year’s gala.
