New commemorative VE Day coins are set to be released to mark 80 years since the end of the World War Two. The 50p design features a dove of peace and the inscription "in peace goodwill", which was originally seen on a 1995 commemorative £2 coin. The coin will be available from Thursday, while a special gold version will be struck on 8 May, the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Veterans Ron Horsey, 98, and Richard Pelzer, 101, from Swansea, were invited by the Royal Mint, external to strike one of the first coins and described the experience as deeply meaningful.
