One of the biggest stories of the NFL Draft was projected first-round pick Shedeur Sanders falling all the way to the fifth round. As fans and media tried to make sense of his fall, several reporters cited anonymous sources who pointed to Sanders' demeanor and conduct during pre-draft interviews. And Travis Kelce has now broken his silence on that discourse.
During the latest episode of the "New Heights" podcast with his brother Jason, Travis went on a profanity-laced tirade about the anonymous sources who were sharing this sort of information about Sanders. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement “I think whoever’s the [freaking] anonymous person that’s [freaking] saying this should [freaking] come out and say who they were. Like, what the [expletive] is that about?” Kelce said on the latest “New Heights” podcast.
“Like, if you’re going to [freaking] leak that type of [stuff], [freaking] be the one that says, ‘Yeah, it just didn’t go well for us.’ Don’t [freaking] say we’re anonymous, ya know? That’s so [freaking] lame. I just feel like there’s no validity to it.” Kelce went on to reveal that he thinks Sanders is far more talented than a fifth-round pick, where he was ultimately selected, and he could even see him becoming a starting quarterback in the league.
“What I saw of the film, I thought he was a way higher pick, and I think that’s all I think should matter. It doesn’t seem like he’s a terrible person. It seems like he’s just a motivated football player that is part of a big football family,” Kelce said.
“Him and his father have kind of taken over the NCAA football for the past three to four years. Whether that’s something NFL teams quote unquote didn’t want to deal with, I feel like this is going to be such a fresh start for him. I can see him working his [behind] off and becoming the starting quarterback in Cleveland at some point, for sure.” We'll have to see how Sanders' career plays out from here, but Kelce certainly seems to think Sanders is a talented player who has a strong NFL career ahead of him.
