Shedeur Sanders says his fall out of the first round of the 2025 NFL draft will motivate him going forward. "We all didn't expect this, of course… All this is is, of course, fuel to the fire," Sanders said in a video taken Thursday night by his brother Deion Sanders Jr. "Under no circumstances— we all know this shouldn't have happened. But we understand we're on to bigger and better things.
Tomorrow's the day. We're gonna be happy regardless." The video appeared to have been taken in Sanders' custom draft room, which featured a shelf stocked with hats belonging to each NFL team, according to a video shared by NFL on Fox.
Sanders, who was ranked as the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 2 quarterback available on the final 2025 B/R NFL Draft Big Board, did not hear his name called through the first 32 picks of the draft.
Miami quarterback Cam Ward went off the board first when the Tennessee Titans selected him with the No. 1 pick. The New York Giants traded up for a quarterback late in the first round, but ended up using the No.
25 pick to target Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart rather than Sanders. Sanders will now join Alabama's Jalen Milroe, Ohio State's Will Howard, Texas' Quinn Ewers and Louisville's Tyler Shough as quarterbacks still available on Day 2 of the draft. Several teams are heading into Friday in need of quarterback depth.
That includes the Cleveland Browns, whose quarterback room is currently led by 40-year-old Joe Flacco, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have Mason Rudolph on track to serve as QB1 amid the team's stalled pursuit of Aaron Rodgers. The Browns are starting out the second round with the No. 33 pick on Friday.
The Steelers, on the other hand, aren't set to draft again until the third round at No. 83. Pittsburgh may need to trade up on Friday if the franchise decides to target Sanders.
