WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – More than a month after President Donald Trump announced tariffs on every one of America’s trading partners, the President announced that the first trade deal has been reached with the United Kingdom. The President said that the just-announced trade deal with the UK is full and comprehensive. And he’s promising more deals are coming.
He added that the heavy 145 percent tariffs on China could soon be coming down. Surrounded by his trade team, the President in the Oval Office announcing that Thursday’s deal with the UK will benefit both countries’ economies. “So, they’re opening up, the country, their country is a little closed and we appreciate that.
They’ll also be fast tracking American goods through their customs for us. So our exports go to, a very, very quick, form of approval, and there won’t be any red tape.” Despite the deal, the UK will still face a 10% baseline tariff on goods exported to the U.S. But the tariff on autos will decline from 25 to 10 percent.
And steel, as well as airline parts from the UK, like jet engines from Rolls-Royce, will face no tariffs. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the deal and spoke with the President by speakerphone. “Today, a really important deal.
This is going to boost trade, between and across our countries. It’s going to not only protect jobs, but create jobs. Opening market access.” Following the trade announcement in the Oval Office, the president making a surprise appearance outside the entrance to the West Wing.
He took my question first regarding future trade announcements JON DECKER: Is this the first of many trade agreements we can expect you to announce here at the White House. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well there’s also others for the White House, well, we’re working on three of them right now, trade agreements, we’re doing great, we’ll be doing a lot of the signings here at the White House. They would like to do them at the Oval Office.
Speaking exclusively to Gray Media, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the deal will be greatly benefit American farmers and ranchers. “Beef cattle! We are increasing ten to fifteen X the amount of beef that we’re going to be allowed to move into the UK almost immediately.
Ethanol, for our corn, well basically our row croppers, but our corn and soybeans and etc which have been so in the cross-hairs with China, y’know probably the most compromised in the Chinese negotiations. Went from a 19 percent tariff in the UK to a zero percent.” Looking ahead, President Trump also expressed confidence of making progress with China during upcoming trade talks in Switzerland. So far this year, the U.S. has brought in $46 billion in revenue from tariffs.
