With the Cleveland Browns signing first-round pick Mason Graham (5th overall), it should only be a matter of time before the Patriots lock up Will Campbell. The Patriots left tackle is one of three rookies who remain unsigned with the team. All three have been participating in OTAs. Nowadays, contracts tend to be a formality with players slotted into certain figures within the rookie wage scale. Although, the Cincinnati Bengals and Shemar Stewart, their first-round pick, have been reported to be at an impasse over offset language in his contract.
Stewart has opted to miss OTAs. This case, however, is more the exception to the rule. According to reports, Graham came to terms on a four-year deal and is expected to make over $40.8 million.
Campbell will be in the $43 million neighborhood. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement First overall pick Cam Ward signed a four-year deal worth $48.7 million with the Tennessee Titans. He received a $32.1 million signing bonus.
Abdul Carter, taken a spot ahead of Campbell, signed for $45.255 million. Campbell and No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter are the only two rookies unsigned from the top 5.
Patriots veteran tackle Morgan Moses told reporters last week he’s been impressed by Campbell. “He’s eager to learn. He asks questions,” Moses said.
“Every day, he’s like, ‘Bro, can we get some sets?’ … His locker’s right beside mind, so we get to talk about football every day. And obviously, he’s a stud man.” Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement The Patriots have an OTA session Tuesday, and will have one open to the media Wednesday.
