Who is Mark Carney, the man leading the Liberals into their fourth term? Image source, Reuters Mark Carney – a former central banker with a global resume – is set to stay on as Canada's prime minister as the Liberal Party that he leads is projected to win a fourth term. The political newcomer was only just sworn into the position last month after the shock resignation of his predecessor, Justin Trudeau.

He later went on to become the first non-British person to lead the Bank of England in its more than 300-year history. Throughout his election campaign, the 60-year-old has touted his experience handling global economic crises and pledged to stand up to US President Donald Trump amid the ongoing trade war.
