The Met Gala for "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" has come and gone, and celebrities have descended on the red carpet with one rule: to stick to the dress code, aka "Tailored for You." One who skipped out on this year's festivities, though? That'd be Ariana Grande.
While Ari's Wicked co-stars, Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum, were spotted on the Met steps this year, the multihyphenate was notably absent from the fashion event. As for her reasoning? She's likely trying to keep a low profile as she just dropped her eternal sunshine: brighter days ahead deluxe album and short film.
Ariana was most recently spotted in New York with Ethan Slater as the pair supported her best friend, Liz Gillies, at Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway. Photographer Vincenzo Dimino even snapped pics of the trio backstage: ICYMI, Ariana is also gearing up for yet another promotional tour, this time for Wicked: For Good. The pair have become extremely close friends throughout the production of these movies, and Ariana has spoken extensively about their bond.
"It's something that was important to us from the very beginning, was to build something real and to know that we could have a safe space in each other for this journey because it was going to be tremendous," she told NPR back in February. "We knew it was going to be years and years of some of the hardest work of our lives, and it's something that we started building from the day we were cast. We FaceTimed and congratulated each other and the announcement happened and the celebratory dinner happened.
I was a fan of hers, but it got very real, very quickly. I reached out and I said, "OK, as we're digging into the contracts, let's stay in touch, let's call each other. I want to be there for you and help make sure you're getting everything you need and I want us to go at everything together because there's going to be so much that is very high stakes about this production that we're jumping into."
