Liberal candidate Tim Wilson is set to reclaim the inner-Melbourne seat of Goldstein from teal independent Zoe Daniel, Nine projects . With more than 82 per cent of the vote counted, the Liberal candidate and former MP is just over 700 votes clear of Daniel, but with postal votes heavily favouring Wilson, he is now set to win the seat. Daniel had celebrated victory on Saturday night before later saying the result was "obviously close and it will be some days before the result is confirmed". "Out of respect for my scrutineers and the democratic process, I will await further counting," she said in a statement. "With the margin in the hundreds and the remaining votes in the thousands this seems sensible. Again, I thank all of those who supported me in so many ways during my campaign and with their vote."
While Wilson was yet to officially claim victory tonight, he shared a series of media reports about his win to his Instagram Stories, along with a frozen yoghurt celebration. "I know it's going to spoil my dinner but on days like this you need celebratory Yo-chi, and I think I've earned it," he said in a short video, describing himself as "a bit quirky". Wilson lost the seat to the former journalist at the last election, after serving as Goldstein's MP since 2016.

Liberal challenger Amelia Hamer has been closing in on the incumbent throughout the day, with 725 votes currently separating the two and 82 per cent of votes counted, however postals are not favouring her as heavily as Golstein's did Wilson. Both teal incumbents were seen celebrating on election night, when they had enjoyed early leads in the count.
