Ex-congressman George Santos handed seven-year sentence

written by TheFeedWired

NEW YORK (Gray Media) – A federal judge sentenced former New York Congressman George Santos to more than seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. While running for office in 2022, Santos consistently lied about his background and misused campaign funds. His short time in office, less than a year, ended in a rare expulsion voted on by his colleagues.

Prosecutors in this case sought the 87 months behind bars that the judge handed down, arguing the public needs to be protected from being defrauded by Santos. While pleading guilty, Santos continually railed against the justice system arguing he was unfairly targeted. A vocal supporter of President Trump, Santos said in a recent interview he had not asked the president for a pardon.

He did say he would be grateful if given one. Copyright 2025 Gray DC. All rights reserved.
