Eurovision 2025 Stage Revealed: A First Look at the Stunning Set Inside Basel’s St. Jakobshalle

written by TheFeedWired

We are just hours away from the start of individual rehearsals on the spectacular stage inside the St. Jakobshalle in Basel. On Saturday, May 3, the venue will open its doors to welcome the 37 delegations competing in Eurovision 2025. This marks the beginning of two intense weeks of preparations for host broadcaster SRG SSR and all participating countries as they vie for the coveted crystal microphone in this milestone edition.

After weeks of hard work, the stage is finally ready to shine. The first official video of the stage in action has been released, offering a glimpse into how it was built over recent weeks. The footage showcases its full potential—with its set design, lighting, and key elements now ready for the live performances.

Eurovision 2025: Cutting-Edge Stage Design at St. Jakobshalle This year’s Eurovision stage once again pushes the boundaries of technology, combining advanced LED systems and innovative lighting. The set has been designed by German visionary Florian Wieder, who returns to bring his ninth Eurovision stage concept to life. Wieder’s latest creation emphasizes simplicity and clean, open spaces, centered around a giant LED screen that promises endless creative possibilities.

A standout feature is the prominent LED frame at the heart of the venue, designed to deliver an immersive experience for both the live audience and millions watching at home. At the back of the Eurovision 2025 stage, a massive LED wall is already dazzling in full operation. Complementing it is a central LED frame that merges state-of-the-art projections with next-level lighting design.

Adding a unique Swiss touch, mountain-like structures have been installed on either side of the stage. These rocky formations will serve as projection surfaces. “We can project objects onto them, make them vanish completely, or even have them move toward the center,” explains Yves Schifferle, the show’s director.

Another major reveal: the green room will be placed directly opposite the stage in a multi-story structure specially built to overcome space limitations within the venue. Meanwhile, broadcast containers and prop storage tents have already been set up. Tobias Åberg, Head of Production, praised the smooth process so far, noting, “The organization has been excellent, with no major issues reported.” A Massive Operation: Building the Eurovision 2025 Stage Around 300 staff members have been working daily to transform the St. Jakobshalle into a world-class performance space.

Of those, about 50 work through the night to keep things on schedule. Over 200 trucks have delivered lighting, sound, and stage equipment every day. “At peak times, we had between 30 and 45 trucks arriving.

We had to coordinate everything carefully, ensuring trucks waited at a designated area 200 meters away to avoid logistical nightmares,” said Åberg. Eurovision 2025 Stage by the Numbers The production team has highlighted the impressive scale of Eurovision 2025, emphasizing that host broadcaster SRG SSR has spared no expense.

Here are some standout figures: 8 kilometers of fiber optic cable for broadcasting. 27 cameras covering every angle. Two of Europe’s largest broadcast trucks to ensure top-quality transmission.

Audio mixed across four dedicated sound control rooms. A 750-square-meter LED wall and a 200-square-meter LED floor. 45,000 light fixtures and 150 speakers.

The St. Jakobshalle is equipped to handle everything from electrical storms to full-scale technical challenges. “We’ve made sure the TV signal can be transmitted via three or four backup routes,” Åberg reassured. Swiss Inspiration and a Visionary Design Florian Wieder drew inspiration from Switzerland’s iconic mountains and cultural diversity.

His vision is brought to life with a grand LED frame and dynamic lighting, offering an immersive experience for performers, the live audience, and viewers around the world. “Our goal was to create a groundbreaking stage concept—an all-encompassing experience never before seen at Eurovision. Thanks to the wrap-around stage design, the audience will be part of Eurovision like never before,” Wieder shared.

Executive producers Reto Peritz and Moritz Stadler expressed their excitement about the stage, noting, “With Florian Wieder, we have a creative visionary who knows Switzerland inside out. He has crafted a signature stage that will forever be associated with Eurovision in Switzerland.” Florian Wieder Returns for His 9th Eurovision Stage Florian Wieder once again leads the Eurovision stage design, having previously delivered iconic stages for Düsseldorf 2011, Baku 2012, Vienna 2015, Kyiv 2017, Lisbon 2018, Tel Aviv 2019, Rotterdam 2021, and Malmö 2024. Basel 2025 marks his ninth project for the contest.

Wieder is collaborating with Artur Deyneuve, who serves as Art Director for Eurovision 2025. Together, they will shape the visual and creative direction of the 69th edition.
