Before the start of the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft last Saturday, rumors circulated that the Eagles were considering Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was surprisingly still available. A recent interview with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman suggested the team may have considered selecting the quarterback. Roseman appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Wednesday to discuss the team’s draft.
When Eisen asked if he would have been interested in taking Sanders if the Cleveland Browns hadn’t traded up to select ahead of the Eagles, Roseman focused only on the actual situation. “I would say that there are a lot of players that get taken before you pick in the draft,” Roseman said. “When you get to your pick, you’re going off the board that you have.” With Sanders off the board, the Eagles took University of Central Florida cornerback Mac McWilliams.
When Eisen followed up about Sanders’ unexpected drop and the Eagles’ later selection of Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the sixth round, he asked Roseman to confirm or deny having Sanders on his draft board. Roseman declined to comment. “I wouldn’t do that with anyone,” Roseman said.
“I certainly don’t want to deal with one single player. That could open the door to many questions, Rich.” The Eagles have consistently added quarterbacks to the depth chart behind starter Jalen Hurts. The team currently has Tanner McKee as its backup after trading Kenny Pickett to the Browns and receiving quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in return.
When speaking about McCord, Roseman expressed high praise for his decision-making abilities. “He’s a really quick processor,” Roseman said. “The ball is coming out really quickly with anticipation and accuracy.
He was the leading passer in the NCAA and when you go down his games this year and it’s like 340, 380, 390 (yards), it’s unbelievable. He’s throwing the ball all over the field… I feel extremely fortunate to have him.” Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust.
