Cowboys Sign Dak Prescott Freakish New Quarterback Backup

written by TheFeedWired

FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have their No. 1 QB locked in, and maybe there will eventually be competition for the No. 2 job.

And this weekend – maybe only for the short term – there will be a fourth quarterback bidding for a job. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Dak Prescott is rehabbing from his hamstring-tear surgery but does plan on participating on some level in the upcoming OTAs. And after trading for Joe Milton (while parting ways with now-Chargers reserve Trey Lance), Dallas is excited to have set up a backup competition between "Bazooka Joe'' and journeyman Will Grier (here in the wake of Cooper Rush having signed with the Ravens).

But the Cowboys are poised to take a look at another quarterback this weekend, as ESPN was first to note, the team will have former Houston quarterback Donovan Smith at this weekend's rookie minicamp here at The Star. Don't misunderstand here; Smith is getting a "tryout,'' but in reality, he's a convenient "camp arm.'' Some of the numbers aren't there, as last year he played in nine games while throwing for four touchdowns with eight interceptions. Smith does have some mobility, and that can be an asset, too. Oh, and there is this: He's 6-foot-6 and 238 pounds (not unlike Milton) Smith and runs a 4.63 40-yard dash with a 37-inch vertical.

… all rather freakish and fun for us to watch … At least for this weekend. Related: Cowboys Amari Cooper Signing Rumor Is More 'Desperate' Than 'Dreamy' Related: Cowboys Signing Isaiah Bond 'Can't Happen' Explains Dallas Insider Want more Cowboys? Come on inside the Fish Report!
