You know what they say — it’s always fashion week somewhere. Hot off the heels of the men’s shows in Paris last week, haute couture kicked off yesterday. And what is that exactly, we hear you ask?
French for ‘high sewing’ or ‘high dress-making’, haute couture refers to custom clothing created by a select few Parisian fashion houses and designers. It’s the crème de la crème of fashion basically, available to only high-paying clients or major celebrities. And while we fall into neither of those two categories, the week's street style provides plenty of major inspiration.
Let’s take a look at some of the best celeb looks we’ve seen all over our timelines so far… Cardi B Christian Vierig // Getty Images Cardi B in Schiaparelli Outside the Schiaparelli show yesterday morning, rapper Cardi B posed with a live crow on a chain lead. Does it get more fashion week than that? Combined with the exaggerated power shoulders of her beaded gown, it was giving Disney villain in major way.
Someone cast her quick… Dua Lipa Neil Mockford // Getty Images Dua Lipa in Schiaparelli Also at the Schiaparelli show was singer Dua Lipa, keeping with the bird theme by wearing a floor-length white feathered gown with a giant keyhole shaped cut-out on the chest (a signature of the fashion house). The thigh-high front split showed off her black Mary-Jane heels. Given her recent engagement confirmation to actor Callum Turner, is this look a glimpse into the future for the bride-to-be?
We can only hope. Everyone's clicking on… Lorde Stephane Cardinale – Corbis // Getty Images Lorde in Chanel This morning's proceedings kicked off with the Chanel show, attended by singer Lorde. Her LBD featured a scoop neck and three-quarter length sleeves, and she accessorised with tortoiseshell sunglasses and plenty of diamond encrusted jewels (also obsessed with the upper arm bracelet).
Simple yet très chic. Gracie Abrams Stephane Cardinale – Corbis // Getty Images Gracie Abrams in Chanel Fresh from hard-launching her much-rumoured relationship with actor Paul Mescal, singer and Cosmo girl Gracie Abrams wore a white tiered mini dress to the Chanel show. Paired with a pair of black heeled pumps, this was a fresh and youthful look.
Karol G Peter White // Getty Images Karol G in Schiaparelli Colombian singer Karol G matched the gilded door of the Schiaparelli show in her gold gown. The fitted bustier silhouette was embellished with beads, and finished off with a long train. Maximalism to the max.
Hunter Schafer Christian Vierig // Getty Images Hunter Scafer in Schiaparelli Actress Hunter Schafer's mint green gown made her waist look impossibly tiny. The strapless design featured delicate gold beading in a striped pattern, and she looked every inch the movie star. Keira Knightley Jacopo Raule // Getty Images Keira Knightley in Chanel Long time Chanel girl Keira Knightley made a strong case for the halterneck dress in her monochromatic, tiered ensemble.
The matching peep-toe mules and handbag couldn't be more ladylike. Naomi Campbell Jacopo Raule // Getty Images Naomi Campbell in Chanel Would it be a fashion week without Naomi Campbell? The supermodel wore a gold power suit to the Chanel show, with a mohawk style up-do and oversized shades.
Only she could!
