Older games have a tendency not to explain things. It's a rarity to see a tutorial in classic releases, and even then you're not guaranteed to receive any lessons, as evidenced by Driver's infamous parking lot level. The original 1999 release of this classic title features what has to be one of the least informative and most infuriating tutorial levels within the driving games genre.
The game starts with your character in a parking lot with nothing but their car and a small list of random tricks to complete. None of the special moves on the list have a description, let alone a tutorial on how to perform them. You're simply expected to figure them out yourself, all the while you're constrained by a time limit of exactly sixty seconds!
This is obviously not the most optimal setup for teaching the player the basic mechanics of your game. It feels more like a separate challenge level than a training mission that shows you the ropes. It's also why most people back in the PS1 era abandoned the game before they could even make it past the tutorial.
