Yet the negotiations initiated since his return to the White House on January 20, 2025 have struggled to progress, despite a façade of optimism.
"I just want to see the war end," the American leader repeated on Wednesday, April 23, in Washington. To achieve this, the United States has initiated a rapprochement with Moscow and is exerting increasing pressure on Kyiv to accept a rapid ceasefire. On the Ukrainian side, however, resistance remains firm: Kyiv, supported by its European allies, rejects any agreement that would give an advantage to Russia and demands durable security guarantees.
