> Entertainment There was this one time when we all thought Hopper from ‘Stranger Things’ was dead. It happened at the end of season 3, when the secret Russian lab in Starcourt Mall exploded and Hopper’s body was nowhere to be found, leading everyone to believe he was obliterated. However, season 4 officially confirmed that not only was Hopper alive, he was in the custody of the Russians and working at a camp in Kamchatka.
The beginning of season 4's second episode reveals that he just fell down on a lower platform, close to the area where the gate of Upside Down appeared. He was greeted by Russian operatives there, at first they tortured Hopper for information. However, upon realizing he has survived all their techniques, the Russians determine he’s strong enough to help the Mother Land and ship him off to perform manual labor at Kamchatka.
But do you know David Harbour, the actor who plays Hopper, thought that his character should have died by the end of season 1. At the time when ‘Stranger Things’ wasn’t a big phenomenon, Harbour read the script, he was convinced that his character should have ended his life by the end of season 1, finding it as the only way to apologize to his daughter. David Harbour says he initially thought Hopper should’ve died back in ‘STRANGER THINGS’ Season 1.
“The first season should have ended with Hopper dying by suicide. To him, it was the only way Hopper could apologize to his daughter.” (Source: https://t.co/fygLwPAt8L) pic.twitter.com/PzfDtkuHWQ — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) April 23, 2025 “I think they were just committed to the beauty of that moment of his death. It was so moving that I think they almost didn’t want him to be alive,” Harbour told GQ.
