In a competitive situation with multiple bidders, Hulu has nabbed for series development Best Offer Wins, the debut novel by former Washington Post journalist Marisa Kashino. Greta Lee (Past Lives) is expected to star in the drama adaptation, which will be written by Suzanne Heathcote (Killing Eve), with the two executive producing alongside Kashino as well as Chelsea McKinnies and Mackenzie Roussos from Entertainment 360. Hulu sibling 20th Television is the studio.
Described as a sharp exploration of class, ambition, and the modern housing crisis, the Best Offer Wins book centers on Margo, a 37-year-old publicist who, after a year and a half of failed bids in her house hunting, becomes obsessed with a perfect off-market house, resorting to stalking, transposing and scheming to land the home she believes would save her marriage. More from Deadline ADVERTISEMENT Celadon, imprint of Macmillan, preempted what would’ve been a competitive auction for the book rights, with the UK book rights sold at auction to Doubleday, imprint of Penguin Books. Best Offer Wins will be published Nov. 25.
Heathcote served as executive producer and showrunner on Season 3 of BBC America/AMC’s Killing Eve and also executive produced Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. She is an executive producer on the upcoming Peacock series The Miniature Wife and co-wrote Netflix’s star-studded upcoming murder mystery movie The Thursday Murder Club. Heathcote, who also is an accomplished playwright, is repped by CAA, Circle Management and Production, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Best known for her starring role in Celine Song’s Past Lives, for which she received Golden Globe and Independent Spirit nominations, Lee will next be seen in Tron: Ares, Kent Jones’ Late Fame and Season 4 of Apple TV’s The Morning Show. She is repped by UTA, Entertainment 360 and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Kashino was a journalist for 17 years, most recently at The Washington Post.
She spent the bulk of her career at Washingtonian magazine, writing long-form features and overseeing the real estate and home design coverage. Kashino is represented by UTA. Best of Deadline Sign up for Deadline's Newsletter.
