Following the firing of Jim Montgomery in November, the Bruins promoted Sacco to interim head coach, a role he held for the majority of the 2024-25 season. While Sacco kept the Bruins afloat in the playoff hunt for a good chunk of the season, management elected to take a selling approach at the trade deadline, dealing away some of the team’s key veteran players.

Sacco finished with a 25-30-7 record as Boston’s head coach. Shortly after the Bruins hired Marco Sturm to be their next head coach, Sacco jumped ship and joined the Rangers.

With Sacco’s experience with a Stanley Cup contending team for all of those years, he’ll fit in perfectly in New York. Now, Sacco has almost a full year of head coaching experience under his belt and that should certainly help bring another element to Sullivan’s staff.
