Three new official Salt Lake City flags were unveiled at the city council meeting in an effort to get around a new state law banning certain kinds of flags at government buildings. Mayor Erin Mendenhall presented the flags Tuesday evening. The new law passed by the state lawmakers in the 2025 legislative session goes into effect Wednesday.

The Salt Lake City Council voted to officially adopt additional flags representing Pride, Juneteenth and transgender visibility – all featuring the sego lily that was on previous city flags. Under state law, flags that represent cities, counties or other political subdivisions of the state are allowed. _____
