For many fans, Lady Gaga and the Met Gala are a match made in sartorial heaven. After all, the multi-hyphenate star has long made a name for herself with over-the-top fashion moments, and no red carpet event is more synonymous with those than the annual Costume Institute gala. Nonetheless, it’s been quite some time since the actress and singer last made an appearance on the Met’s steps—six years, in fact, since her iconic entrance at the 2019 Camp: Notes on Fashion themed event, where she stunned in a quartet of looks that she transformed through right on the red carpet.
Unfortunately, it seems that fans will have to continue to hold out hope, as the star once again skipped out on fashion’s big night out this year. The news doesn’t come entirely as a surprise. In the days leading up to the gala, Gaga performed several shows in Brazil, which would likely have caused scheduling conflicts for the star to head back to NYC for the gala.
Part of the promotion for her newest album, Mayhem, her performance, dubbed Mayhem on the Beach reportedly drew 2.5 million fans at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach over the weekend. In late March, Lady Gaga announced that she will be going on tour from July through November this year. “I wasn’t planning to tour this year after my shows in Singapore but the incredible response to the new album inspired me to keep things going,” she wrote in a post announcing The Mayhem Ball Tour.
She added, “This show is designed to be the kind of theatrical and electrifying experience that brings MAYHEM to life exactly how I envision it.”
