CharliXCX and Lorde: It’s More Than Just a Song

written by TheFeedWired

Well, it happened. They worked it out on the remix and the internet went crazy. Coachella 2025 was anything but chill and relaxed.

It’s been a while since the performances themselves created this much buzz. About 365 days ago, the iconic party girl album was released: Brat by Charli XCX. The album completely changed everything for the summer and seasons after.

It wasn’t just an album, it was a lifestyle, a culture. The album was even used as a soundtrack to Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. Maybe You Just Wanna Be Me So, how does Lorde play into this?

To keep it short and sweet, fans of Lorde and Charli have been pitting the two pop stars against each other for almost a decade now. Yes, their music sounds nothing alike, but their hair and aesthetic can be easily compared. After Charli released her hit, “Girl, so confusing,” fans knew the track was directed towards Lorde.

Subtle lyrics about jealousy and projection immediately gave it away to loyal followers. Photo from Pinterest It’s You and Me on the Coin, the Industry Loves to Spend This isn’t the first time the media has pitted two prominent women in the industry against each other. But, why?

It’s so easy for celebrities to be reduced to their relationship or physical appearance. Exhibit A, above. Another great example is Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber.

Even married with kids, the Biebers are still constantly reminded of the past, Selena and Justin’s early 2000s young love. And while some can’t seem to work it out, Charli and Lorde made sure to prove the internet wrong. Let’s Work It Out on the Remix Photo from Pinterest The duo shocked fans at weekend one of Coachella during Charli’s set when she brought Lorde on stage with her to perform “Girl, so confusing.” The crowd went ballistic.

Confirming that in fact, “the internet would go crazy,” referring to lyrics in the song. After the life-changing performance, Charli released the remix with Lorde across streaming services creating an even bigger commotion. But this isn’t just about a catchy song with two artists collaborating, this is more than that.

Two successful women in the industry were able to beat the tale as old as time, the classic narrative of two artists beefing, and for what? In an industry already so against women, frankly, it’s the last thing they need. The media celebrated this newly resolved beef.

So, maybe there is hope for Selena and Hailey or even Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo. This could be the beginning of a peaceful industry, a revolution. What’s your favorite song on the Brat album?
